President's Message
Greetings in 2024! How's the start of your year unfolding? As a club, we achieved quite a bit in 2023, and I'm confident you're poised for even more in the coming months. Your Board of Directors set ambitious goals, and to realize them, we're counting on your valuable assistance.
Included in this month’s newsletter is a document entitled “2024 Committee Assignment Preferences”. At our next meeting this Tuesday January 23rd, you’ll be given the chance to reap the benefits of taking an outward focus. Please read through the document and choose a dream-role in your club. During the event, we’ll setup areas for each committee and give you the opportunity to ask questions and share ideas. By the end of the meeting, you’ll have made your committee choice preferences by handing in your selections. Soon after, you’ll receive follow-up from the Board confirming your new role. We need everyone to participate. Thanks in advance for your help.
Additionally, we are excited to announce a special guest visiting our club this Tuesday. Femi Adenekan, a founding member of his Rotary club in Lagos, Nigeria, will be joining us. With a history as a past president of the same club, Femi's Rotary journey commenced during his time with Interact in High School. Beyond his Rotary involvement, he is an accomplished author and businessman and was recently appointed District Governor. Femi will be accompanied by his wife and partner, Tayo.
In October, during her visit to our club, District Governor Hung Wei underscored the importance of mental health, drawing from her personal experiences. Aligning with her mission to boost awareness, our Mid-Year Reflection meeting in early January featured experts in mental health awareness, education, and treatment from various parts of the Bay Area. This event brought together representatives from our three clubs in Gilroy and drew the participation of over 100 Rotarians from other clubs in our district. It proved to be a fantastic way to spend a Saturday morning.
Lastly, in 1992, Valley Water and Santa Clara County joined forces to create the Adopt-A-Creek program, urging residents to actively contribute to preserving the well-being and beauty of our local creeks. Leading the charge is none other than Gilroy After Hours Rotary! Thanks to Michelle Adams for all her hard work towards securing the relationship. Keep an eye out for additional details and information about an upcoming kick-off event.
Thanks for being part of the club and for all you do in the community.
